KKTC Student Permit 2026: What It Is and How to Check It Online

A KKTC student permit is the residence status Northern Cyprus grants on the basis of study. Enrolment — including a language course — is what makes you eligible, so there is no deposit to freeze and no income to prove.

How to check your student permit status online

Applications are tracked on the official TRNC migration portal permissions.gov.ct.tr. Sign in with the account used for the application and look it up by passport number and date of birth — the same details the university submitted. The portal shows the current stage and any outstanding items, such as the medical certificate or the immigration fee, and it is where that fee is paid online in Turkish lira. Because the amount moves with the exchange rate, the portal is the only reliable figure. Edhab is not affiliated with the portal — it is the government’s own service.

KKTC or TRNC?

KKTC is the Turkish abbreviation (Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti) and TRNC the English one. Both name the same jurisdiction; official portals use the Turkish form, which is why searches for both spellings lead here.

What it costs in 2026

Tuition is the only large item: €1,750 for a year (2 semesters) or €2,300 for 18 months (3 semesters), paid directly to the school — prices effective 1 August 2026. Add a medical certificate of about $200 (valid until 30 September whatever date it is issued), an immigration fee of around $20 paid online in lira, and compulsory annual health insurance. Sworn translation of documents is done locally. Edhab’s own support is free: we are the student support office for ELU language courses, not an agency.

FAQ

What is a KKTC student permit?

It is the student residence permit of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC in Turkish, TRNC in English) — the official residence status granted to people enrolled on a course of study, including language courses. It requires no bank deposit and no proof of income.

How do I check my student permit status online?

Applications are tracked on the official TRNC migration portal, permissions.gov.ct.tr. Sign in with the account used for the application and look it up by passport number and date of birth. The portal also shows any outstanding steps and is where the immigration fee is paid.

Is KKTC the same as TRNC?

Yes. KKTC is the Turkish abbreviation (Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti) and TRNC is the English one. Both refer to the same jurisdiction, and official portals use the Turkish form.

How much does a student permit cost in 2026?

The tuition is the only large item: €1,750 for a year (2 semesters) or €2,300 for 18 months (3 semesters), paid directly to the school — prices effective 1 August 2026. Add a medical certificate of roughly $200, an immigration fee of around $20 paid online in lira, and compulsory annual health insurance.

How long does the paperwork take?

The appointment at the university usually takes about an hour, and your status is official from the date of application. The blood test behind the medical certificate is what takes a few weeks — not the permit status.

Do I need to know Turkish or English to qualify?

No. Language courses accept complete beginners and have no age limit. The course is what makes you eligible for the permit.

Does a language course really count?

Yes. Language courses of 12–18 months are a valid basis for the student permit, alongside bachelor’s and master’s degrees. This is the cheapest legal entry route.

What does Edhab charge for this?

Nothing. We are the student support office for ELU language courses, not an agency: we check your documents and handle enrolment, and the tuition goes straight to the university.
